Following a desire to get ‘messy’, I begin working with clay on a throwing weekend with Sheffield-based potter Penny Withers in 2008. I quickly realise that my interest does not lie in throwing ‘perfect’ pots with nice neat edges; rather with distorting forms and pulling the edges out. I rarely throw pots now, preferring the slower pace of coiling which allows me to more easily follow where the material leads.

Pots often sit around the studio for several years until I decide on how to glaze or finish them. I am drawn to uncertainty in process and enjoy dabbling (safely) with raku and smoke firing processes and seeing the effects that can be produced with different techniques.
